Data Usage
Q. What speed is my flat-rate plan dropped down to after i've reached my limit? A. The speed is dropped down to 56kbps until your month resets.
Q. What is counted as usage? A. Any data that is downloaded. With a few exceptions from free Netspace supported services: For a complete Listing of Free Sites: http://sfoa.netspace.net.au/adsl/downloads/
Q. Netspace has a Peak/Off-peak system, how does it work? A. Netspace home plans have a peak and an off peak allowance per month. Peak period is the time between 7.00AM and 11.59PM weekdays. Off-peak falls outside these times, Weekends are counted as Off-peak.
Q. Can I swap On-peak time for Off-peak time? A. Unfortunately not, if you go over either your peak or off-peak allowance, you will have to pay excess charges.
Q. Does Netspace have a usage meter? A. Yes it does, the online usage monitor can be found at : http://www.netspace.net.au You will need to type in your username, password to access the monitor.
Q. Are there any third party usage meters? A. Yes, Infact there is a very reliable and nice Usage meter designed by a Netspace User (Dopefish) called Netspace ADSL Usage Monitor. This program is supported by Netspace and recommended by all users on the #nshelp channel. If you wish to download the usage monitor or would like to read more about it and its features, you can visit the homepage: http://mrg01.customer.netspace.net.au/. If you require any help with the usage meter log onto our IRC Channel (#nshelp) and ask away, for technical information on the program, you can ask Dopefish himself as he idles on the channel.
Q. When does the monthly data allowance start and stop? A. This anniversary date is set by Netspace when Telstra has confirmed with Netspace that your connection to the exchange has been completed. So when Telstra enables the service, say for e.g on the 10th of January, then Netspace set the billing period to end on the 10th of each month at midnight. If there are any Line issues, Netspace advances the billing end date.
Q. When will I have to pay for excess usage? A. Shortly after your allowance anniversary, your credit card will be debited with the excess charges.
Q. Do I recieve a warning or notification if I have gone over any limits? A. The Netspace usage meter calculates data accumilated per-hour. If you go over, you will have a e-mail sent to your username@netspace.net.au account with how much you have exceeded. This feature was brought into implementation by Netspace approximately in June 2002.
